The internationally recognized South Tyrolean artist Gertrud Mitterstieler-Widmann has been pursuing her passion as a sculptor for more than 50 years.
The sculptor Gertrud Mitterstieler-Widmann orients herself in her work on a typical, classic sculptural theme, namely the figure. Classical sculpture places the human being, as the measure of all things, at the center of its cosmos.
All of the artist's works combine reality and fantasy, a development that opposes the increasing mechanization and banalization of art, perhaps even unconsciously. Here originality, naturalness and simplicity stand as the opposite pole to alienation and clarifies the attitude towards a higher law in which all forces serve the beauty and harmonious.
In the works of Gertrud Mitterstieler-Widmann, the play of light and shadow, which is particularly evident on the typically moving surfaces, is impressive. In her works in bronze, this interplay is underlined by the alternation between metallic sheen and the matt shimmer of the patina.
Her surroundings, her life experiences are the sources of her inspiration. Customs and rural traditions from their homeland, which would suggest a simple representation, compete with the playful elegance of "the other world" and merge into a wholeness in which the tension becomes harmony.
